N I G E L  B O E H M, cello (C A N A D A)

Nigel BoehmNIGEL BOEHM has been recognized as an exceptional Canadian cellist through his recordings for Radio-Canada and National Public Radio (USA), dedication to musical education, and many performances throughout Canada and the United States. His musical talents have earned him numerous awards including Laureate of the Debut Competition in Montreal and prizewinner in the Concours International D’Orford. His commitment to younger generations of musicians has secured him a faculty position at the Mount Royal Conservatory and Academy in Calgary, Alberta Canada, where he is an instructor of cello and chamber music, and teaching assistant to well-known pedagogue John Kadz. Equally respected as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician and adjudicator, Mr. Boehm is also a manager and archetier for Wilder & Davis Luthiers, one of Canada’s most respected and largest stringed instrument workshops. As such, Mr. Boehm travels extensively throughout North America, China and Japan as a consultant and dealer of fine stringed instruments. Mr. Boehm has a Masters of Music degree and Undergraduate Degree with a minor in Musicology from McGill University, having studied principally with Italian cellist Antonio Lysy, and taken masterclasses with Janos Starker, Gary Hoffman, Zara Nelzova, Shauna Rolston, Bonnie Hampton, Aldo Parisot, and violists/violinists David Takeno of the Tokyo String Quartet, and Thomas Rolston .Following his formal education, Mr. Boehm was invited, on several occasions, as an artist in residence at the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts. In addition to collaborating with pianists Anton Kuerti and Gilbert Kalish, as well as violinist Thomas Brandis, former Concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, he performed premiere works by up-and-coming young composers.
